Lawmakers in Oakland have achieved a major milestone in the use of psychedelics when they spearheaded a successful drive to decriminalize plant and fungi-based psychedelics. The move allows members of the public to consume ayahuasca and psilocybin mushrooms without fear of landing in jail.
In their next push to legalize psychedelic healing ceremonies, the psychedelics activists have rolled out a myriad of safety guidelines that participants in entheogenic healing ceremonies will follow once legalization occurs.
The healing ceremonies involve the use of entheogenic substances believed to have healing capabilities. So far, the practice awaits legislation to have legal backing. Decriminalize Nature (“DN”) has rolled out a myriad of guiding principles explaining why mushrooms and entheogenic plants should be treated with respect.
Through the guiding principles released to the public, the group indicates that the public should get prior information about the entheogen they intend to consume since each has different roles.
Some aspects mentioned by the DN site include unique wisdom, pre/post-care practices, and varying durations should be considered in determining the type of entheogen to consume to support the healing process.
The guidelines compiled by Decriminalize Nature further indicate that meditation, breathing exercises, a healthy diet are key in the entheogenic healing process. Research studies showcase that among the experiences that play a key role in the process include profound healing, along with offering insight about the past to help in the healing process.
Additionally, details cited in the DN guidelines indicate that integrating insights got during the exercise is critical since it transforms people’s usual habits for the better. Some of these aspects include a better diet, more exercise, among other factors.
Reciprocity is also another key aspect that has been highlighted in the guidelines. In this case, reciprocity is believed to be important in helping nurture long term growth in the community.
Other aspects include exercising gratitude, which is believed to be important in nurturing personal growth. This involves preservation and caring for the natural environment with an aim of supporting the growth of mushrooms and entheogenic plants.
In other words, promoting reciprocity and improving network support offers a great opportunity for the Oakland community to succeed. Generally, DN puts more emphasis on education.
So far, a draft proposal recommending the legalization of psychedelic healing ceremonies has been submitted to lead council member Noel Gallo a key sponsor of the process. Oakland City Council has not yet set up a schedule to review the proposal.
DN’s raft of proposed guidelines stipulates a myriad of safety measures for individuals who intend to participate in psychedelic ceremonies. The psychedelic activists believe these kinds of ceremonies are critical in the healing process, especially individuals undergoing depression, trauma, and stress-related complications.
These types of ceremonies are geared towards using entheogenic substances to help in the healing process. The safety guidelines have, therefore, been put in place to guide participants in the healing ceremonies.
In Oakland, lawmakers have made a raft of measures to roll out a framework that embraces various psychedelics among them mushrooms to help in the healing process. Though embraced by various players in Oakland, advocates in the industry are pushing for more vibrant policies that will allow the public to consume entheogenic plants and fungi in controlled setups. It would be interesting to hear what companies like Pure Extracts Corp. think about the guidelines released by the Oakland activists.
